The source code for the NESticle emulator is now released publicly on GitHub.

I’ve seen plenty of stuff like that from who I would consider to be “edgy nerds,” I guess I’m just confused by the original comment and their assertion that there’s some kind of difference in toxicity nowadays compared to before. There’s both gross out humor and racist/misogynistic humor in new and old.

FWIW, my high school had lots of people who would make racist/misogynist jokes (particularly on the robotics team, where lots of jokes were made about something being “gay,” or calling each other “bitch,” and where a quarter the people on this team weren’t straight), but when you got to know people they were pretty open to people doing whatever and pretty happy with what ended up being a very diverse team (about a third women on the year I was there, and the women were almost all active on the team).

Compare that to a tech company where a family member is working, and I bet there are no jokes about anything being “gay,” and I assume you can’t call someone a “bitch,” but I’ve heard from him plenty of just general conversation and gossip that goes around that’s way more problematic and demonstrates legitimate stereotyping and negative assumptions based on race, gender, presumed culture, etc.

So I’m not really convinced of “edgy nerd” morality on the argument of what humor is used.
