The South Seas Federation, the smallest and youngest dominion of the British Commonwealth

The South Seas Federation is one of the 7 dominions of the British Commonwealth, and depending on whether one counts it's territorial waters it is either the smallest or one of the largest. It's economy is largely based on fishing, cash crops, tourism and light industry, though in truth the dominion has never been completely solvent and receives financial assistance from the rest of the Commonwealth. The Federation achieved complete independence in 1974, 9 years after the Federation was first constituted under colonial rule. The Federation actually includes a few territories not colonized by the British, namely Wallis and Futana, a former French possession, American Samoa, and the New Hebrides which was a former Anglo-French condominium. These territories were brought into the federation via plebiscite in the 1960s.

The South Seas enjoys a moderately high standard of living and a pleasant climate. A peaceful country, the dominion nonetheless contributes a 12 000 strong Infantry Regiment to Commonwealth defence, as well as a number of patrol boats and helicopters.

The Federation is bordered to the south by the French Overseas Collectivities of French Polynesia and New Caledonia, to the South by the Dutch Overseas Collectivity of Netherlands New Guinea, and to the north by the Republic of the Marshall Islands, a state in free association with the USA.

Netherlands New Guniea was united with Papua New Guniea in the West New Guniea dispute, where Indonesia laid claim over the western half of the isle. The Dutch turned to the British in the dispute and after a period of undeclared, low level hostilities (in which Southrons were deployed), the United Nations recognized the Dutch administration as legal through UN General Assembly resolution 1752 (XVII).
