the whole VIP idea is so awful

VIP is more about convenience and comfort than it is for getting a better spot. Most of the headlines did not have a special VIP line for the pit. Most of my time spent as VIP while watching was with everyone else in the same crowd.

The only difference is that I had a showers, flushable toilets, a way to wash my hands, and a guaranteed shorter walk (to enjoy the music more instead of walking).

People who buy VIP aren't doing so under the illusion that they're actually a VIP. We just value these things more and can afford to pay for it. It wouldn't be economical to have the festival and provide everyone the same amenities, so the organizers provide these extras at a huge premium to a very small portion of all attendees. I don't see what's so awful about that. If everyone got this stuff, your GA would probably be 50% more expensive than it already is and everyone would complain about the increased cost (just like they did this year despite all the praises for the new restrooms).
