Why I Think 'SpectateFaker' Should Be Shut Down

I actually agree with you. I dont understand this whole controversy.

Streaming video game play is a relativley new thing with lots of gray era for how it should be handled. But I think the one thing we all agree on when controversey swoops up (like companies trying to outright block any gameplay of their game) is people should be allowed to to stream their gameplay because its more about them then the game, or its their right as the game owner, or person doing something, to share that if they want to.

In the spectate faker stream, its one of the first large scale "Watch me stream someone else play a game!" Which while it has existed in other realms, never on the scale or significance spectate Faker has accomplished.

I've seen people compare it to LCS. Well... No. LCS is Riot Games organizing League of Legends games they intend to stream and they help fund any people involved and it exists on a whole different level then a person simply playing SoloQ League, or Mario Kart, or whatever.

I've seen some people compare it to SubWars. Well... No. Subwars is a popular streamer doing much the same that Riot is doing above. People are 100% aware of whats going on and are willing participants. No one has ever been forced to play a Subwars.

I've seen some people compare it to the fact one could spectate anyone anyway with OP.GG and the like. Well... Closer, I guess. I guess the issue is people see it in the realm of "we can spectate him anyway, so whats the big deal." I guess thats true, but then why dont people just spectate Faker themselves instead of making a big stink? There is obviously something about someone else doing it (ease of access I guess) that makes it semi-popular.

But this loops around to the problem at hand in what streaming is. Why should anyone be able to garner any following because they broadcast Fakers games? This fellow who did this is now a person of interest of this subreddit. What if he decides to start taking subs and ad revenue? What if Razer offers him a sponsorship thing? Or one of those AceSkins sites or whatever? What has he done to earn this? Nothing. Now he may NOT have done these things (I'm not overly familiar with the issue) but what if someone else does? What if TSM for some ungodly reason signs on with Azubu and someone starts a Bjergsen stream and then does all that? Is it not easier just to say "Let people broadcast their gameplay their way or not at all."

I think people are taking the muddied gray area composed of the fact you can spectate anyone and allowing it to change the point of the issue. It has nothing to do with that, it has to do with why someone else should benefit from someone elses gameplay/name/skill.
