Speculative investing and gambling

The most important thing is you should not be asking "what do I do or don't do" but get into the habit of keeping on top of these things. Buy a subscription to the Wall Street Journal. Learn about financial markets and the debates happening within the financial markets, seek to educate yourself on it so that as you start earning more money, you know what you are doing and know who you can trust and who to stay away from in terms of financial advice, etc.

This is the only biblical way, because the heart of the matter from a Biblical perspective is for you to consider well your steps and understand everything you are getting into, you should be understanding the implications of everything you do, and having an informed outlook on your investments, just like any other area of life. Anyone is smart enough to learn that and Biblically, we are actually commanded to be very diligent as we go about everything in life, especially our investments.

Even if you don't work in the financial field, you should probably start reading or even subscribe to the Wall Street Journal. If you think about the amount of money you need in order to retire or accomplish whatever other financial goals you have in life, it is probably a pretty fair amount money, large enough to justify the habit of spending a few hundred dollars a year on a subscription so you can keep track of your finances and investments.

If you don't want to pay for the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg.com is basically of the same quality, and is totally free. Then you can be informed and follow the debates within the financial markets so you can be proactive rather than reactive to the markets and the economy.
