Speeding police officer kills pedestrian

I am definitely not saying that the cop is an innocent person in this situation. If he's doing triple digit speeds he likely should have had his lights on and also likely his siren. This said, a lot of people are claiming that the person that walked out in front of a car is completely innocent. There is no innocent party in this video. Both had fault, however while a car is supposed to yield to pedestrians, pedestrians can see a car much easier/better than a car can see a pedestrian especially when it's at night. This paired with jaywalking in the dead of night made for an obviously fatal mistake.

I'm going to try to give perspective on why the cop was speeding, because it is very possible that he was doing his job to the T.

My dad was a sheriff, my uncle was chief of police in a local town, and my sister is state highway patrol. I asked my dad why cops are doing large amounts of speeding without their lights on.

His response is as follows: Cops have multiple levels of responding to calls… 1. No lights, no rush (noise complaints, security alarm) 2. No lights, but get here ASAP or STAT (domestic violence with escalation - this is very dependent on the City / location. Some cities HIGHLY regulate the use of police lights and sirens to the point of it being borderline dangerous for citizens, yet "the public doesn't want to hear/see the cop cars when they're responding to calls" … bc it disturbs their utopia that is their house. This is ESPECIALLY true at night. This situation may be one of the big players here) 3. Lights no siren, get there STAT (residential area domestic violence with higher escalation than #2) 4. Lights, siren, get there STAT (weapon violence, suicide escalation, any life/death scenarios including injury accidents)

So while a lot of people on this thread are accusing the police officer of not only breaking the law, but also flat out murder, he may very well have been doing his job as the public demands him to do.
