The Sphinx Is the Riddle, not the Riddler. Or; the symbolism behind the Sphinx and what is implied.

Do you know where whores go?”

She flushed. “Whores sell themselves for coin.”

“Or jewels, or gowns, or castles. But where do they go?”

The girl could not grasp the question. “Is it a riddle, m’lord? I’m no good at riddles. Will you tell me the answer?”

Are you familiar with the Sphinx-Chimera theory? It posits that Tyrion is the sphinx.

Remember the dream where he had two heads and was in the field with the likes of Bittersteel where he(Tyrion) cutdown his own kin. Only one head wept while the other revelled in the slaughter.

The theory goes that two ova from Joanna were fertilized by Tywin and Aerys. Then the two zygotes fused and the result was Tyrion- a lion that is also a dragon. The body of a lion, the wings and tail of a serpent(dragon).

I know that the Tyrion is a secret Targ theory is not very well liked as opposed to the Tywin's trueborn son theory however the chimera theory is the third way here.
