[SPOILER] Bellator 259: Valerie Loureda vs. Hannah Guy

It’ll just take more time than men’s MMA did, just like every other sport.

How long has the NBA been huge? The NHL? Look at their women’s leagues and you’ll see that it took so long for them to get the recognition they have now.

I think it’s a matter of stigma, where the world right now isn’t quite ready as a whole to be like “yeah of course girls should go into combat sports if they want to,” because sexism and gender roles are still a little too hardcore. Like just look at how much attention PVZ gets just because she’s gorgeous and at a talent level where she can compete with people at/near the top, because it’s so rare for that to happen. It’s this weird thing where people (not MMA fans, well maybe some of them) still think women can only be badass if they’re lesbian and manly. I’m not saying that doesn’t happen, but badassery in women isn’t exclusive to butch lesbians.

My point is, if little Billy is like “I wanna box!” Then dad’s probably gonna take him to some kind of program for kids to learn boxing or something.

If little Jessica says the same thing, it’s more likely that their parents would be like “oh are you sure? You could always play volleyball...” of course this stigma is slowly changing over time, but it’s still there more than a lot of people would like to admit.
