[SPOILER DISCUSSION] What are your showerthoughts involving the TV Show universe itself?

People keep bringing up the farm and some of the other places that they could have gone back and raided after an appropriate amount of time (which is a very good point btw), but I have always been so disappointed in the group's ingenuity in the scavenging department as a whole. I get that stuff becomes scarce the farther we get from the initial outbreak and there are other groups, but come on putting a little bit of effort in coming up with a plan that isn't we raid the first place we stumble across.

  1. Why does no one use maps, like I know it gets brought up a couple of times, but come on guys collect all the intelligence you can about your surrounding area, then use em as kindling when you move on. Not only like the big highway ones either, local ones - you know the ones that show you WHERE places are that you might want to visit. (It is RIDICULOUS that they had spent months traipsing through the same like 25 square miles of wilderness and never ONCE come across the prison, or even a sign that indicated that there was a prison nearby)

  2. I know they were blindsided by the whole CDC blowing up, but damn I would think ONE of the people might nick a few things from the place ahem-Daryl as he was still kinda in his redneck/delinquent phase. Also, the only reason the place went boom is cause Jenner used all of the fuel up trying to find a cure, so are there any other CDCs or similar military/government/privately run facilities that took proper protocol when they abandoned ship? If so maybe some of those kinda places are still standing and sealed up, you got people in your group now (Abraham, Rosita, etc.) who could probably come up with a way to get into a locked up place like that or you know blow up the front window.

  3. I have a friend who worked in an Amazon processing facility, and if the world goes to shit, once the dust settles a little, I am heading to my nearest/largest one. It would be a bit like mixing Castaway with Walking Dead, but who doesn't love surprises! And most of those places have quite a low number of staff on site (robots taking all our jobs) so it might not be too infested either. You know as long as no one else had the same idea.

  4. Like I know gas is a hot commodity, but why are you so sequestered to one spot. Once you have the intel (ie a gd map) on the surrounding area and you scout it out why don't they travel out a bit more? They are real close to the ocean, you could totally sail up the coastline at a much faster rate than walking or even probably driving as the roads are a shit show with pile ups and herds.

  5. On the topics of oceans, why has no one started going out and fishing. You drive for 3 days to get to a place that might have canned food or what have you, you can go out on/near the ocean and deep-sea fish and come back in the same amount of time. Also uh why no shrimping or setting traps for crabs or lobsters or ANYTHING that you could feed your people with. I know they finally acknowledge the issue when they brought up Oceanside, but it's just sorta glossed over. Like, damn Tara you can go to Rick and say "Hey we should totally try out fishing, it's worth a shot." without breaking your promise or even mentioning Oceanside. It's never been addressed if anyone has any skill with sailing/fishing, but they are not super hard skills to acquire. Takes just as much work as farming and everyone is slowly learning how to do that, with the help of Maggie. Someone has got to have been fishing at least once before, if not they could probably figure it out. I mean Eugene figured out how to make bullets and poison. I'm fairly sure he had not actively done those things before the outbreak.

Those are just a few spitballed ideas. I just wished they starting organizing and planning more, it's nearly always the same wash-rinse-repeat, I sure hope we stumble across some place that has some stuff we can take. I had thought since they didn't give Abraham his comic death that they would start utilizing his military training, not just in battle, but in covert operations and planning more missions. I would have loved to have seen an episode where like Abraham, Glenn, Sasha, and Rosita went on a type of mission that was planned out and led by Abe, maybe to Washington. Not only could it have been a good way to start dealing with the love triangle, it would give the characters new and interesting ways to show off their different skills in a new environment, and not just in open battle. Also I kinda really wanted some closure on the whole getting to DC arc, this would be a good chance for that and for Abe and Rosita to come to terms with their new dynamic. They could have reached their goal, and they could have reached a new level of understanding in one another. And then maybe I wouldn't have hated every decision Rosita made this season (and we could get the cat-fighting real and truly outta the way).
