[Spoiler] [LoK B1-B4] Finishing Thoughts.

Toph: My mind's just fine, thank you. Listen: [as she speaks, images of each of Korra's enemies fade in and out] what did Amon want? Equality for all. Unalaq? He brought back the spirits. And Zaheer believed in freedom.

Korra: I guess ...

Toph: The problem was, those guys were totally out of balance and they took their ideologies too far.

I agree they all took it too far, but i believe this was merely a justification for the writers to end their reigns so to speak, if the enemies were dialed back from ridiculousness a bit there would have been little need to confront them so heavy highhandedly, the only reason any of it makes sense to end them is because they all turned into monsters basically and the Avatar was forced to stop them.

If getting rid of bending powers was elective, ok, but they had to force it for plot flow.

If the water tribe civil war played out without the Vaatu set piece the water tribe would be unified and spirits free,

Same with the earth kingdom unification but they had to add the reeducation camps as justification to stop Kuvira and then icing on the cake a giant mech.

Now I agree with you disagreeing with me, haha. My point merely was the writing direction, not actually the end all be all culmination of the enemies and Korra's outcome. But what could and should have been to make a more compelling less black and white decision making process for Korra to go through. Which would have made her indecisiveness that much more potent and meaningful in trying to restore balance in the world and her self.

As we have it she is more like a caricature than an actual character driven person stripping away the overzealous parts.
