[Spoilers] 91 Days - Episode 12 discussion - FINAL

Extremely underwhelming finale. I love the gangster genre, I loved "The Sopranos", the Godfather movies, Goodfellas, Boardwalk Empire - you name it. I get that they wanted to pay tribute to the genre by leaving the ending ambiguous, but it did not work for me.

The ending should've been one of those options:

  • Both biting the dust. There is nothing left for them anymore and apparently (if I understood it correctly) the new Galassias don wanted Nero killed by Avilio. Avilio kills Nero and then offs himself, seeing that his revenge didn't mean anything in the end.

  • Avilio dying at the hands of Nero. The latter now realising that he's lost everything and that the kid he spared 7 years ago was responbile for it. Ridden with grief and guilt, he offs himself.

  • Or something totally different. The scene where both of them sit at the diner reminded me so much of the finale of "The Sopranos". One of those random people who entered the diner could've simply been Galassia members on the hunt for Nero. He gets killed, Avilio couldn't act out the full revenge himself and now has nothing left to do.

I'd have prefered the first option. Hell, even the last one would've been cool, because it would've been surprising. The one we got was just...underwhelming. I liked the scene where Nero almost shoots Avilio; it was incredibly tense and I really thought he would do it. I also liked the scene where Avilio screams that Nero should've killed me back then. There were great moments in this episode, but ultimately, it did not meet the expectations I had.

Finales have a huge impact on the score I give to a series. This could've been my AOTS, easily a 9, but this finale left a lot to be desired. Episode 11 was the true finale IMO and thus this series only gets a 7. Still liked it, because it is something different in an industry filled with SoL, moe and the seasonal harem.
