[Spoilers] The Adventure Zone Ep. 59: Live Discussion Thread

Speculations: Relics, Schools, Robes, Reasons?

Phoenix Fire Gauntlet, Evocation, Lup: A spicy character no doubt, was found guarding the gauntlet, most likely locked Gundren's father in the vault after he got a hold of it. Used fire to spell out her own name via the Umbra Staff, probably helped beef up those arcane core fireballs Taako used on the Gaia Sash final boss. Is consuming the defeated wizard magics for sustenance, probably laid some serious hurting on the Wonderland Lich brother. Lup was likely the evocation specialist and loved to play with fire, hence her attraction to the Necromantic romantic bad boy Barry. Her love for him and her former teammates may be the only thing keeping her tied to the world and she likely lacks the level of self-preservation that Barry does in undead form.

Oculus, Illusion/Conjuration, Davenport: Captain of the IPRE team, the mission was his life. So he's someone who has big dreams and makes them come true. Making illusions real is the Oculus' whole shtick. It wouldn't surprise me if he was responsible for creating the "impossible ship" this way. Conjuration is also about transporting things from other planes which seems core to the IPRE and perhaps why The Hunger is pursuing them so much.

Gaia Sash, Evocation/Conjuration, Merle: Merle's strong affinity to nature and Pan are an obvious pairing to the Gai Sash. The Sash seems to both manipulate existing natural energies and create things from nowhere so is likely both Evocation and Conjuration rather than one or the other. Merle's connection to Pan may be the primary source of his powers but he might be able to source them directly from the Earth druid style when his memories return. In as much as nature is also an expression of Pan.

Philosophers Stone, Transmutation, Taako: Taako's preferred style of magic, and obviously tied to his cooking. It may be that Taako's mastery of transmutation is what allowed the team to forge the materials needed to traverse the planes, much like Lucas needed the stone to create the perfect disks. It strikes me that Lup and Taako would be very similar but also very different. Both drawn to excitement and attention, but Lup being more masculine and Taako having a more feminine demeanor.

Temporal Chalice, Conjuration/Divination, Magnus: Stated in the show that he "feared something" he'd "made", before giving it to good folks of refuge. Fear of harming others is most likely, hence why he brought it to a very remote town far from everyone else. Having lost someone, and being the youngest, wanting to go back and fix his mistakes, and save those he couldn't protect would be a very Young Magnus thing to do. It may be that he has tried this previously and made things worse.

Animus Bell, Necromancy, Barry: The bad boy, the rebel. Who fears death, Barry doesn't. Why live once when you can do it all over again, rules of life and death be damned. Clearly, the main Lich of the story made the bell and is experienced in Necromancy. Barry is a loose cannon and probably caused a lot of the problems he's having to deal with now. His IPRE friends accepted him and helped ground him. He needs to make things right, and he'll live and die as much as needed to do it. Couldn't save Lup though...

Oak Staff, Abjugation, Lucretia: She's recently cast a shield spell in her private room, and is offering to make a mega world shield to keep the hunger at bay. She's clearly all about Abjugation. She couldn't protect the other worlds, so now that's her main goal with this one. Was probably overruled because bringing the relics together as one would lure the Hunger much faster.

No Enchantment relics. Although they all cast a thrall which is a form of mind control.

Istis said there would be a choice to make? Is it between the two routes: Keep the relics separate and doom a world to war and destruction through their use. Keep them together and bring about the end of the world via The Hunger. What would the third choice be?

Will time travel be used to fix this? In a non cheap way?.

The hunger seems to make monsters of varying types, but all seem to be representations of different creatures/peoples of various worlds. Is it like the Borg? Assimilate and move on? Is it a giant evil Voidfish that needs entire realities to feed upon to stay full? Galactus Voidfish?

Where do the memories go when the Voidfish eat them? Is the spiral galaxy in their cores more than just a visual, is it an actual place? Are they to blame for The Hunger.

Is the light something the IPRE stole and that's why The Hunger chases them?

Such an amazing episode, my brain is ablaze with conspiracy!
