(SPOILERS) But I just realized something pretty heartbreaking

One could assume a lot of the population was condensed to protect against crime. Even neighborhoods that were luckily unaffected could be forced to move to city centers in the face of increased crime and decreased ability to patrol the areas.

Rural areas probably aren't as effected. If anything, we'd grab dead neighbors' tractors and implements.. one person can farm thousands of acres.

Society would collapse at first but go right back to kicking. A lot of people work in contingency operations ... keeping things moving in the wake of man made or natural disaster. I had a bit of experience in that - organized plans for electric and water infrastructure failure in certain cities.

Markets would collapse off the bat, but everything would scale down and normalize over five years, I'd think. Five years isn't enough time for everything to go to ruin, so immediately after everyone gets snapped back, I'd imagine there would be a golden age of everything scaling back up and economies booming. You see this after devastating wars, but it would be a global effect.
