[Spoilers] Could someone answer a few Katanagatari questions for me?

Yeah, sorry if I rambled a bit and it was slightly incoherent. Hahah.

Kiki is a pretty strange person, just like Hitei is. In my opinion, he kinda just wanted to see what would happen and see what could be changed with the knowledge he has. He isn't one to act, or one to pull the strings either, he simply creates the swords as game pieces for others to play with and to see what they can do with them. His swords won the Sengoku era wars after all and that was basically his goal, he put a bunch of swords out and whoever has them has the ability to alter history. He didn't have a plan so much as he wanted to just shake things up a bit to see what could be changed and see if it could change Japan's future if someone has all the swords they could be powerful enough (I'm assuming he was trying to stop the eventual Meiji restoration and later the events of WW2 probably, the swords in the right, united hands, honestly might have been able to stop the West from strongarming Japan in to opening it's borders in the 1800s at least).

Katanagatari takes place in an alternate history that is implied to be pretty much the same as real historical Japan, up until Kiki creates the swords. The swords do effect the tide of the war between the states and a different Shogunate is established. It just kind of stagnated in the same way the original one did and didn't have much difference overall seemingly, but who's to know if Kiki's plan would have actually changed anything or not because Shichika completely stopped it by destroying all the swords and doing a hard reset on the Shogunate, he rejects trying to affect the future and leaves it up to the future generations to deal with it in their own way. But Kiki did change something greatly and perhaps the swords could have done something down the line if some one or group was able to wield all of them. And technically Hitei accomplishes Kiki's goal by getting all the swords in the hands of the Shogunate and his elite, for a moment, before Shichika easily kills all of them, they are almost a force to be reckoned with.

I think Kiki kind of created Kyotouryuu as a stopgap, as a defense mechanism, for his plans. It can, in theory, defeat anyone who is using one of the swords against Kiki's purposes without destroying the swords. That's exactly what Shichika does in the story. And Shichika's dad stops Togame's dad from changing history back on the right track as well. And as for Togame's dad, he probably spoke to Higaki Rinne like Shichika did, the sword with no blade makes you confront yourself and your past and he most likely had some realization about himself and about history like Togame and Shichika do in the episodes they find it in. He thought maybe he could get history back on track by using all the swords for his own purposes.

But yeah, Hitei didn't want to kill Togame, but I do believe she told Emonzaemon to do it, he didn't have to either and wouldn't have if she didn't tell him to. See Hitei is amazing to me, because on one hand she was close completely fulfilling Kiki's plans, which is basically her destiny as a Shikizaki, but she also has no love for her ancestor and really doesn't care about his plans. So she doesn't just hand the victory to either side, she kills Togame and evens the playing field. This is the reason it's my favorite series, because everything comes together masterfully at the end. Togame makes Shichika more human, and less of a weapon throughout the series, Nanami helps him balance his emotions to become more effective at being a weapon while also being human. Hitei kills Togame after he's grown a lot of emotion and cares for her more than anything and it creates the ultimate weapon basically, and Togame's final words push Shichika to finish this for her.

Hitei continues Kiki's plans, but manages to use his own defense mechanism for his plans, completely against it. It can really go either way, and I think that's why she acts "denying", her destiny is pulling her one way, but she also doesn't care about Kiki's plans at all and wants to stop them. So she makes things totally equal and just wants to see how things will play out if both sides are even. She could undo her ancestor completely, or go along with his plans completely and either will be an interesting result. As for the Shogun's Elite warriors, they actually aren't weak at all in my opinion, most probably aren't as strong as some of the original holders, especially Sabi, but Shichika is just an unstoppable force now that he doesn't have to follow Togame's rules of Protecting her, Protecting the swords, and Protecting himself. And Shichika is probably the only one who could destroy some of them. She just sets everything up to go either way and her choice to kill Togame is ultimately why the plan is undone. And why she completely drops her facade in the final scene, she doesn't have any attachment to the Shikizaki legacy anymore since she helped to undo it, her being honest with her feelings is her way of moving on from the past and her destiny and doing what she wants to.
