I firmly believe this fight had a marketing push on the line. Calvillo stepped up to the plate in her debut and looked awesome against Cooper. She has Urijah probably talking her up, she has wizard-level ground skills, and she's an American of 100% Latin descent.

Look how excited the UFC was to push Grasso, and the ratings spike for her debut fight. Latinos are the largest minority in the country, and prior to Calvillo, I think the only American female fighters they had from that demographic were Pena, Tecia Torres, Carla Esparza.

Pena is very good looking and wins fights, but she doesn't do anything visually impressive. She has personality, but she can be abrasive and rub people the wrong way.

Carla Esparza wins fights, but lacks in terms of style and personality. And I don't want to be mean, but she's not very good-looking.

Torres is really cute, great body, and wins fights. But she can't sell herself talking. She looks really polished in the ring, but she's small for the division and can't finish or ever hurt her opponents.

Calvillo is very outspoken, physically charismatic and comes off as a pretty cool girl. Grappling is harder to engage people's attention, but her constant movement and searching for ways to hurt her opponent makes her an exciting grappler. She's not traditionally beautiful, but I think there's something incredibly hot about her. I looked at some YouTube comments and I'm not alone.

Basically, all the UFC had to do is see if she could win fights.

I don't think Pearl seems particularly charismatic, but she's is legitimately stunning. I bet the UFC felt if could beat someone as talented in Calvillo in her debut fight, she'd be going places.

Calvillo is definitely in for a push.
