[Spoilers E109] J'mon Sa Ord tinfoil hat theory

Are you seriously comparing cannibalism to questioning traditional gender roles in a postmodern society?

you're point was, since trans gender was acceptable in other culture, then it must be acceptable in our culture. my point was, simply because trans gender was in other culture, doesn't mean it has to be acceptable in our culture. That's pretty simple.

But you're equating to saying; "These people exist" to "forcing an opinion down their throat".

that's not what I'm saying at all. I am saying forcing an opinion on how to use the pronouns are forced down our throats. I can refer to a person as a gender neutral he, because that's how that word was used in the past. If you read my grammar book, it would have said default to 'he' if gender is ambiguous. 'they' was exclusively meant as plural. You are changing that definition artificially and expect everyone to follow or else you're offended. I don't buy that.

That pretty much sounds like you have a say in the lessons they teach. ...Talk to your kid about what they learn in school, like any parent does.

I really don't have a say in it. I don't have the ability to pull them out of school, I can't teach them at home. If I teach them one thing and they it conflicts with what the school taught, they will get their tests and homework marked wrong. The kind of choices you are forcing people to make are unrealistic and impractical, and you know it. [on the other side: I've heard people tell me, if I don't like the president, I can leave the country. That's also not a realistic thing to do.] If you understand this, maybe you'll see that this is a problem, not just because of gender issues, but a whole slew of other issues.

Freedom of speech does not equal right to a platform or megaphone.

This goes both ways -- people really CAN go too far to push any platform even if you have good intentions.

So long as you are not being persecuted (which is not what de-platforming or refusal to listen is) then freedom of speech is being preserved. Hooray! Criticism is also not silencing, by the way.

Oh, but there has been efforts to silence opposing viewpoints though. I have been threatened by twitch chat moderator to be quiet or be banned, (not just time out, banned) because I accidentally use the wrong pronoun not knowing what people were bothered about. Now, I personally don't really care -- as you can see in my history, not once have I referred to call J'amon a 'he, since I'm trying to be respectful of people in this community, especially to Matt since he's called J'amon, 'they'. For me that incidence on chat was lack of information. Still it's very distasteful for a chat moderator to threaten me like that.

I can tell you, these encounters are becoming really more and more frequent, and it's getting more and more angry, lots of yelling and name calling, from both sides.

What we are doing is criticising adults' refusal to listen to how we want to live and interpret the world around us. Why is it always assumed that we don't understand the world around us

Why do you think adults refuse to listen? I would say it's because we disagree with your world view and because it conflicts with our world view. You cannot say because you see things one way and wish things to be so, you have to force everyone else to see it the same way and do what you tell us. We live, and let live. I let you be you, you let me be me. Isn't that the only way to coexist? Now forcing me to use words in certain way means you want me to change. And if I don't? My reasons are insulting? Do you even want to know why I refuse, or have you already made up your mind about what I think, right off the bat?

We can even broaden this beyond gender/sexuality/identity if you want -- it's the same with every debate and disagreement we as a society will every have. Sometimes, we simply can't agree on some things, but we should still be able to exist next to each other.
