[Spoilers EXTENDED] What theory do you genuinely hate?

The trope being subverted is what you revel in, yes. At least, when GRRM does it I find it to be good. Ned Stark is set-up as the main character and is then killed. Beric is a noble warrior that's been resurrected, but he's horrifically scarred. Magic is dark and dangerous, with Bloodraven being a creepy old dude in a tree, rather than the wise old man that helps the characters. In order for the trope to subverted, GRRM has to set it up. The deconstruction will likely be through similar twists such as these. I don't see a problem in a trope existing in a story that GRRM writes because if its done differently or it means something then it isn't a cliché or trope anymore.
