[Spoilers Main] Has GRRM been trying to tell us something?

I agree completely. I watched the show before reading the books and was absolutely stunned by the difference in Jorah's character. He's built up in the show as a guy who has made some mistakes in the past but deep down has a heart of gold. In the books, he's a manipulative creep who has a useful set of skills to offer, yet loyalty based on little more than sexual desire. I like both versions of the character--the show version for satisfying that more "smooth" archetype and the book version for offering more interesting dilemmas--but the book version is, at his core, a more flawed character and thus one that allows for more interesting conversations about his motives and merits. He's far from the most sinister character Dany meets, but he is definitely presented as someone who can't be taken at face value. You're usually interested to hear what he has to say but always a bit nervous that whenever he appears alone with Dany that he's going to try and make an inappropriate move.
