I think it would have been much better to play this song instead of what they did, if not for the tribute, then just because it's a kick-ass song, but I understand why they didn't. It's just not very relevant. It would have been out of place and even the 5 seconds or so of what they did show was out of place. Of the however many that wanted to see it, there are many more who don't even know what spongebob is or would have thought it cheesy. And let's not forget that the Superbowl is almost entirely a money-making endeavor and an opportunity to (figuratively) brainwash consumers with advertising and whatever the music industry wants to pedal at the halftime show. A random tribute like this doesn't fit the agenda.
