Square Enix demos next gen Luminous engine with real time path tracing on a RTX-2080ti

We've only just got the foot in the door now. For example, I bought the game Control just because I know those Finnish rendering guys are all geniuses (and some of them directly responsible for Nvidia's ray tracing software and hardware), I've again been following them since 90s (they have their hands in so much recent CG history it's ridiculous) and knew it's my best chance to look at what current hardware can do wrt ray tracing.

When I looked at the first 2 hours of Control, besides being reasonably well-executed technically, it was very stylish and looked like a great storytelling game. But it wasn't well enough executed technically for me to spend 60 euros, when I already have so many other super fun game-games (as opposed to tech-games) to play.

I actually think it's a good move to go directly to path tracing and denoising, since it scales very well and cleanly to supporting everything. Path tracing is a way to intelligently distribute your computational efforts to solving the rendering equation (= perfect visual reality), so that's the way we should be (and are) going.
