There are so many Bible verses that say the opposite though. Being honest with you I can barely tolerate most modern American Christianity. It seems a washed down version of scripture designed to be marketable to the carnal man.

For goodness sake even paul was called to suffer by way of injury fir gids pleasure. We are to count it a blessing when we face persecution and death.

Christ himself said you are not greater than me, if they hated persecuted and killed me they will do the same to you. Every single discipline was killed, often brutally.

We don't need to suffer as christ did but suffering is definitely a good thing. It is just flesh that reviles it.

More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Most of all Philippians 1:29 29 For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake,

1 Peter 4:1

Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,
