Wikipedia Plot:

The Force Awakens is set approximately 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, where the Rebel Alliance has succeeded in restoring the Republic, but the remnants of the Galactic Empire have reorganized as the First Order; a Republic-backed Resistance fights against their growing power. Poe Dameron, a Resistance pilot, is dispatched to the planet Jakku by General Leia Organa to obtain a map believed to hold the location of Luke Skywalker, the last Jedi, who has been missing for years. Kylo Ren, a powerful user of the dark side of the Force, is trying to intercept the map. Dameron travels to the planet Jakku to get the map. When Ren attacks he places the map in his droid, BB-8, and sends him away. Ren captures Dameron, and orders the slaughter of the village where he is found. Aided by a stormtrooper repulsed by the First Order's brutality, who is dubbed Finn, an escape attempt ends when they crash-land back on Jakku, where Dameron is presumed to be killed. BB-8, meanwhile, has come into the possession of Rey, a young woman who survives by scavenging and is waiting for her parents to return. After Finn meets Rey and BB-8, the First Order tracks them down, and the three escape the planet in an old spaceship, the Millenium Falcon, which used to belong to Han Solo. Solo and Chewbacca capture the Falcon, which was stolen from them years ago. After escaping an attack by pirates who demand repayment of debt from Han Solo, they travel to the planet Takodana to meet Maz Kanata, a 1000-year old alien pirate who owns a castle, looking for aid. While at Kanata's castle, Rey discovers the lightsaber of Anakin Skywalker, and receives a vision in the Force, which she recoils from in horror. Finn takes the lightsaber for safe keeping, to give to Rey when she is ready. When the First Order attacks in pursuit, Rey is captured by Kylo Ren, while the others escape after Resistance fighters arrive, led by Dameron, who survived the crash. They return to the Resistance base on D'Qar, where it is revealed that Han Solo and Leia separated after their son turned to the dark side and became Kylo Ren. The map turns out to be only partial. Ren, meanwhile, attempts to torture Rey to get the map from her mind, as she has seen it. However, he is thwarted by Rey's strong connection to the Force, which she then uses to escape after Kylo Ren leaves in frustration. Meanwhile, the First Order is using a new weapon built directly into a planet, the Starkiller Base, which absorbs a sun to power a beam that can annihilate multiple planets, in an attempt to destroy the Republic. They plan to target D’Qar. Solo and Chewbacca are sent to destroy the new weapon before it can hit the Resistance, though Finn is only concerned with Rey's safety. Solo and Finn find Rey, and Solo and Chewbacca plant explosives to sabotage the Starkiller’s main weapon. Solo sees Kylo Ren, and confronts him. Ren appears hesitant about whether he should abandon the dark side, but promptly kills Solo, which Leia feels through the Force. The explosives damage the weapon, allowing Dameron and other Resistance pilots to fly inside and destroy it with their weapons. The attack on D'Qar is prevented, and the Starkiller begins to breakup. Ren confronts Finn, who is injured in a lightsaber duel. When attempting to retrieve the Skywalker lightsaber, it instead flies into Rey’s hand, and Ren and Rey duel, but the ground between them cracks and separates them. Both sides escape as the Starkiller Base is consumed by the sun it has absorbed. Returning to D'Qar, the full map is revealed when the dormant R2-D2 awakens and is shown to have the remainder. Rey travels with Chewbacca and R2 to find Luke Skywalker, who is living on a remote island mountain, and Rey presents the lightsaber to him.
