Star Wars Battlefront II DICE Developer AMA

I want to address an aspect that some may not even realize yet: lootboxes are just another form of gambling. By purchasing microtransactions you don’t receive the items you want, you receive a lottery ticket to pull them.

  • Why do you think this form of gambling belongs into a full-price AAA game title?

Considering the huge Star Wars franchise, a significant part of your playerbase will be young individuals, who - as a consequence - will get in touch with gambling through your game.

  • Do you think introducing young individuals to gambling stands in any conflict with normal business ethics?

Having read the resetera post that describes the sheer amount of gametime or microtransactions required to unlock everything in the game, or in other words the amount of resources necessary to play the game people paid full price for to its full potential…

  • why? Just why? Why do you lock the progression part of the game behind such huge walls? Have you never had a meeting where any of your developers thought “this kinda sounds like Pay 2 Win, I don’t wanna play at an disadvantage“?

Why don’t you want to learn from your mistakes? Why do you always have to find a way to fuck everything up? Just days until release and instead being hyped for the game, you managed to piss off half the internet.

  • How does that feel?
