So when I took on this role and moved 15 hours away it was to work for another regional. They have since been promoted to HQ. We had worked together in the past and discussed career goals and shared very similar interests so taking the leap wasn’t bad. I had much more breathing room under my previous manager.

6 months ago this guy came in (internal promotion) and kind of clipped my wings. I understand I work for him, that’s cool, but he kind of just takes over when he’s around. Which is quite often to be completely honest. He also decided to home office at my place due to the drive and when he’s around I feel like “The Assistant to the Regional Manager”. Like unwillingly Dwight Scheute....

Several examples of people I pushed along their careers that harmed me immediately. At the same time, my own fault for not being prepared for their departure. Like if I see you excelling then I better train your backup right? Lesson learned on that.

If I had an employee that was essential and got a call about an offer that would better their lives then why would I shoot them down. I’m going to tell the truth about how awesome they are and what they need to work on, etc. if they land that job then I feel I succeeded as their manager.

In regards to the current boss and his approach. So yeah it’s weird, like can’t read the guy whatsoever. Very back and forth on what he wants. One day it’s this, next it’s that, then back again. Projects his issues directly to us. So one of his 10 locations does something wrong we all get a nasty gram sent out. Verbiage of the emails is not friendly nor what I would say is appropriate. Not cussing or anything wild.

When I questioned him on something he sent to the entire regional chain, not undermining but it was regarding OT being excessive and why...well buddy you literally had me bring everyone for extended shifts for a month straight to assist a location in another time zone....sent us all emails daily for weeks and magically forget?

Instead of replying to the email he called and asked if I was being a little girl about it. Like cool man and no.

Called him due to accident occurring while he was at another location. He flips out while he is inside that facility. Like in front of hourly folks and the GM. “If he can’t fix this I guess I’ll be running his place too” was what the other GM called to tell me he said in front of everyone.

Bro, accidents happen. Everything was handled per policy and nobody got injured, just small property damage. But to say something as that in front of others employees. Like I get it rip me apart solo on a call or behind a door but in front of another facility...

Last one that pissed me off was me giving him a heads up about an issue I was working to resolve. Literally a heads up so you don’t get blinded sided and details to reference on the resolution. His response via email, after he took the other departments off the chain, “Always with the excuses, I want results now. Don’t worry boys life it about to get much harder!”

Like not sure how to handle this because I’ve never had a boss like this and I don’t want to rock the boat. I have to work with this guy regularly and I’d like it to be somewhat pleasant.

I am in no regards Senior. I don’t think there will ever be a time I can relate to that mentality. Yeah I’ve learned a lot over the last 5 years but I have a long way to go and new stuff pops up all the time.
