Started off freshman year with a 2.4, really need some advice.

This could not be a bigger lie. I am currently applying to jobs and everyone is asking what college I went to and what my GPA is. I'm sick of hearing people say "grades don't matter" because in reality they do, especially starting out. No one is going to outright say, "We picked this person because they went to an ivy league", but I would argue that most hiring managers are going to look at your resume, glance at what school you attended, and judge you accordingly.

I've even looked at companies, especially startups, where generally people come from the same caliber of school.

I know I might get "cancelled" out for saying all of this, but I am sick and tired of listening to people as they pretend like merit has no meaning. It absolutely frustrates me, as someone who is literally busting his ass to get into a good graduate school, that people try to say this kind of bull shit. Yes, sometimes it doesn't matter, but I would argue that most of the time it does. It sucks, but it's true.

Try in school. It matters. Try to get into a good university. Sure, you can still get just as far as someone in a top school, but let me say, it's significantly harder.
