I think you're more likely to have a life that sucks because of mood altering substances. They affect your health, your mood, your money, your relationships, your work life, everything.

I'm in school to be a psychiatric nurse practitioner specializing in substance abuse and while I understand that less fortunate people are more likely to turn to drugs, I've never met someone who had their life improved by drugs. I have sympathy for victims of drug abuse, but they're doing something that will only make their lives worse.

It's really just unfortunate that it's so easy to have children for most people. It just continues the cycle of drug abuse and poverty.
