Starting March 23rd, UH will be moving classes online

I work at UH.

How does this affect student workers who rely on the income? With an essentially closed campus, what will support staff do; how many could lose their employment?

Campuses will remain open for the foreseeable future barring an emergency shutdown; classes will be online only from March 23-April 13 unless it's warranted to extend it further. Otherwise, in-person classes are scheduled to start up again on April 13.

All campus staff will be required to work their normal hours (unless they're taking leave) and buildings will be open for normal spring semester hours. There is some discussion regarding curbing/adjusting building hours/services but nothing is set it stone at this point because of the fluid situation.

Student workers would likely be expected to continue working whatever hours they requested, unless they request to be taken off. I've heard that there are some students that have temporarily stopping working their on-campus jobs because of the covid scare, but most are carrying on as normal. Staff have been instructed that we will need to cover for student workers should they opt not to work (not like we'd really force them to).
