It's astounding that conservatives flip their shit about taxes going to healthcare, especially when much of the population is on some form of socialized medicine already, but are completely fine with insurance and medical providers charging exorbitant rates to satisfy their shareholders.

Population size is irrelevant. Especially when we're talking about the wealthiest country on earth.

The functions of the government are to secure the border and enforce the constitution.

And the Constitution was written in 1787. A lot has changed in the 230 years since. One being that medicine and infrastructure has developed to the point that universal healthcare through collective means is not only feasible, but proven more efficient. Most of us don't want to live by 18th century standards anymore.
