Stay-at-home moms, what were the factors that compelled you to forgo your career to care for your kids and the household 24/7?

Special needs.

I was already working from home because of it, but once school started I had to quit that too and focus on getting the child through school. As in I actually had a teacher call me and ask me if I could be his aide.

It took 5 years of non-stop work until the child could attend school without an aide, 12 years in total.

There's nobody else who could have done it. My husband worked crazy hours. And we certainly couldn't afford full time therapists like Catherine Maurice did for her kids.

Some women thrive in being sahms... I didn't. Going back into the world was a relief, even though I was a complete persona non grata at first. It took years to get a job that doesn't completely suck.

But I paid my dues to a child that didn't ask to be brought into the world, in full.
