Staying in your Hometown

[Because I spent way too long, writing a way emotional response, to let this topic just be deleted]

I wish to make a disclaimer: I was born in small town America, and since then, I have moved a great deal (physically and mentally, and I would wager, more than anyone else on this forum). Over the years, due to personal and emotional experiences, I have developed an incredibly deep and emotional hatred for anywhere associated with my upbringing. This hatred has influenced my argument, so please consider this a disclaimer: my opinons are not as 100% objectively rational as I wish they were. That being said – America is not like the rest of the world. Any sense of ‘tradition’ in our country is contradictory. There is no traditon, just as there is no culture. Any tradition we have comes down to ideological ceremonies dedicated to celebrating the democratic republic foisted on us by liberal democrats 200+ years ago. Any cultural traditions are lifted from immigrant groups whom we brutally oppressed (English, Irish, German, Chinese, Japanese, etc. etc.). Our hometowns are economic hells which, if the author had chosen a future in something relevant, he would realize. When faced with the regular supply of food, shelter, and human contact that the city provides, who in their right mind would choose to stay in the unending torture that is small-town America? In my experience (and I am being very blunt here), only the unintelligent, the intelligent educated in useless fields, and the rich country gentry, have ever seen any value in possibly the worst areas of the entire continent.

I support tradition, family, close connections, small-town environments, and all the other assorted right-wing social ideals as much as anyone else here. But I also recognize that to try and keep American citizens in their hellish torture chambers beyond the age of 18 is not only stupid, it is suicidal. Fascism here will have to find a way to incorporate Mass Urbanization and the end of small-town life, or it will fail as assuredly as Orleanist Reactionaryism failed in 19th century France.
