Stellaris got me thinking

The real struggle of turning real life into Stellaris, is not the giant space guns, or the giant space missiles, or the giant space lasers.

The real struggle would be holding the planet together in the first place. If we can't hold together a country, how can we hold together an galactic empire? Problems on one planet may be dismissed by others. Social traditions developed on one planet may be considered repulsive or just plain weird by others. And thanks to human's competitive nature, you'd have a fucking superiority race.

Humans are not suited for galactic empires. Maybe ants, but you'd have to find a way to transport the pheromones across space...

The idea is that a society that values individuality is an oxymoron (not sure if using oxymoron correctly).

A citizen of a one-person society is free to do whatever they want. Two people? Well shit, maybe one person is allergic to peanuts. Either the other guy kills the allergic dude to avoid the hassle of avoiding peanuts, returning to a one-person society, or they have to figure something out.
