Steve Jobs unknowingly predicts the downfall of Apple (credit to u/the_adventurist)

First /u/BeefPieSoup argues that Apple should be concerned that they're no longer "cool":

Given that their company's entire raison d'être is literally built on "cool points" it should certainly be a concern for them [to lose their "cool points"] I would have thought.

I think it's ridiculous to try to breeze over that point.

Then /u/Jeffy29 points out that Apple was never "cool":

I can't seem to recall when exactly Apple was this cool company.

Then /u/A_Jolly_Swagman counters by saying that Apple in fact used to be cool when they released the iMac, iPhone, etc.:

All of these brought Apple great accolades all around and they were the cool company.

I'm directly countering the premise of A_Jolly_Swagman's argument. Which is that Apple was "the cool company" at one point.

The whole point of discussion in this (admittedly pointless) thread goes back to whether Apple should be concerned that they are no longer cool. I'm saying:

  • that they were never cool among techies. And so they shouldn't be concerned about still not being cool among techies.
  • that they're still cool among regular people. And so they do not need to be worried about no longer being "cool" to regular people.
