Steve Kerr on three point shooting (Open Court 2013)

Well, I think for one you could make the argument that the fundamental skills of the game are being jeopardized if kids growing up now are so dazzled by the prettiness of the three-point shot, that that's all they think they need to practice. Because let's face it, there isn't much that goes into taking a three-point shot. You just shoot from a spot on the court where there isn't a lot of defensive pressure.

It also risks making the game too predictable. It's fun to watch the Warriors play because they have the two best shooters in the league. But watching the Rockets force feed Beverley, Terry, Brewer, and Ariza to heave and brick three pointers all game is not fun to me.

And because like I said, there generally isn't as much defensive pressure and not as much tactical defense being played beyond the arc, you lose that aspect of the game. I remember Warriors vs. Blazers game during the reg. season where both teams went up to like 120+ PTS IIRC, and the entire game was just running up and down the floor, feeding a guy behind the line and watching them chuck a three-ball. After a quarter of that I got bored because that's all that was happening. It's like the all-star game except you aren't watching the best on best.
