This still exists in 2015

they are using their past persecution as a means of power politics. They're getting a power trip over this.

Except the naive view of " universal human rights" doesn't really apply when your surrounding countries wanted (and still for the most part still want) to wipe you off the face of the earth because of a religion that still is very prevalent today.

The situation is much more complex. And when you want to talk about social and economic progress, you have to look at human nature as a whole instead of the elementary school view of "be nice as a whole"

If you want example of this, look at Singapore. After gaining its independance, it developed a highly successful economy and prosperity, with a large part due to the policies of ex prime minister Lee Kuan Yew. However, it also has some very strict laws in regards to things. Lee Kuan Yew even said

“I am often accused of interfering in the private lives of citizens. Yes, if I did not, had I not done that, we wouldn't be here today. And I say without the slightest remorse, that we wouldn't be here, we would not have made economic progress, if we had not intervened on very personal matters - who your neighbour is, how you live, the noise you make, how you spit, or what language you use. We decide what is right. Never mind what the people think.

And from what I have seen in the world, I agree with them. The general populace is borderline retarded when it comes to taking care of their own prosperity. Especially those living in Palestine who still are Muslim, no matter if they are extremists or moderates.

And in this case, I really think that Israel knows that unless it stomps out the Arabic culture, they are always going to have problems with religious aggression. This is why they are so aggressive against Palestine.

And granted what the state of Islam around the world is, I tend to agree with them. It sucks for the people who are born into that life, but every adult in the world has the capability for rational thought and is responsible for their own decision.
