This is something I wrote recently that I feel is relevant to the #StillBisexual campaign. Sorry if I ramble on at times!

We know Korra and Asami are bisexual but I think it's also important to realize bisexuality itself is a spectrum. To help explain things, I'll use the Kinsey Scale or the more updated Klein Grid. I’m personally a 5, which means I’m predominately attracted to the same sex (women) and incidentally attracted to the opposite sex (men). This falls in the bisexual area between heterosexual (1) and homosexual (6). A woman that’s a 2 would also fall in this area. She would be predominately attracted to men and incidentally attracted to women. A woman that’s a 2 and a woman that’s a 5 can fall in love with each other and have a healthy relationship for the rest of their lives. Where am I going with this? The spectrum of bisexuality is often misunderstood, as evidenced by some reactions to when Korrasami became canon almost two months ago.

In college I dated a bisexual man and it was from him that I learned the hardships bisexual men face. Many people automatically view them as gay but in denial. I wasn’t immune to that prejudice and also assumed he was gay before we dated. Similarly, I’ve met many people who perceive bisexual women as confused straight women. I personally shied away from bisexuality for that very reason. Do you see a pattern though? It’s as though once you show interest in a man, it invalidates any past or future feelings you have for a woman.

This is one of the reasons why it’s important not to erase Asami and Korra’s existence on the bisexuality spectrum. Their love and attraction for each other is no less real because they were attracted to Mako. I think it’s pretty obvious they’re going to have a long, happy life together. I also want to note that we don’t know where they fall on the spectrum. I personally see Asami as predominantly attracted to the same sex, but that’s just me. Korra and her can both be anywhere on the bisexuality spectrum, but let’s not forget they’re on it!
