i have to agree, i think a bigger contributor was the Atheism™/Skeptic™ community(?)--the whole movement was based around being an outraged intellectual screaming in the face of some dumb irrational enemy and mentally preparing for debates and public confrontations that almost never happen and etc etc so all that impotent dork rage got funnelled real easily into alt right/anti SJW shit. from day 1 gamergate was pretty clearly people yelling at female game designers unless you were in from the ground floor, and when pressed for specifics those same people always futz around with some pepe sylvia bullshit ramble about how they had a LIST mannn anita went to the fucking UN mannnnnnn
