I stopped smoking tobacco weed (blunts) Monday and this is what happened...

heyyy, just thought id share some tips that ive discovered over time relating to weed and my mental health. for some background, i have severe depression, severe generalized anxiety, insomnia, borderline personality disorder, and sadly the list goes on lol. ive been using cannabis for several years now, ive researched the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics between all of my meds and how they interact w/ each other and cannabis. the psych meds im on are zoloft, olanzapine, and concerta.

yes, taking zoloft w/ weed can be dangerous in relatively high doses as the zoloft is an agonist to serotonin receptors and will stop serotonin reuptake, essentially keeping it from leaving your system. since thc increases serotonin production, the combination of the two creates an interaction where you could experience moderate or even severe serotonin syndrome. think of it like a traffic light - an ssri like zoloft makes red lights last longer and more frequent, while thc increases the amount of traffic, so you the best course of action is to wait for the green lights to come back, i.e. wait for enough zoloft to leave your system. if you take zoloft during the morning and thc at night, its much easier to avoid this interaction. cbd combined w/ thc will reduce the electrical activity from the thc and thus serotonin production.

so if you take zoloft in the morning, and use a mixture of cbd and thc flower in the afternoon/evening (ideally a 6:1 cbd to thc ratio), its much safer.

another benefit of cbd combined w/ thc is they will make each other more effective, basically "activating" each other. you would get a controlled high pretty much guaranteed to reduce anxiety, stabilize emotion regualtion, and improve sleep. this combination also prevents an increased tolerance. for this combination to work, you would need at least a 3:1, and preferrably a 6:1, cbd to thc ratio to work.

there is no negative interation between this cbd/thc mixture and adhd meds, but you would want to avoid taking it w/ sleep meds. there is a slight risk of interaction w/ second generation antipsychotics like olanzapine, but you would need a pretty high dose for that to occur.

thc can however offset some side effects so its beneficial in moderation. for example, thcv can reduce blood glucose and reduce cravings, resulting in an antidiabetic effect. and some terpenes have very effective medicinal benefits.

myrcene reduces anxiety and depression, and increases metabolism; caryophyllene has especially strong antibacterial, antiseptic, anti-anxiety, and anti-inflamation effects. caryophyllene also breaks down the cell wall of, and inhibits the reproduction of, malignant cells, resulting in a chemotherapy effect without any bad side effects. caryophyllene is also excellent at treating addiction, epilepsy, pain, and reduces cholesterol.

tldr: a combination of cbd and thc, notably strains like cannatonic, acdc, pancakes, grand daddy purple, and wedding cake, are effective treatments for anxiety and depression, amongst other things, and have minimal negative side effects. however avoid high doses of thc when taking an ssri such as zoloft
