Store has people leaving en masse. Can I take advantage or should I join them?

Story time! When I was 19, I was one of two guys working in a computer store, and the other was a curmudgeon that didn't really like me, but was amiable enough and eventually ready to quit. When he did, he said - "Now, as soon as I leave here, he'll probably talk to you about me quitting... Don't wait. Let him know you're willing and able to pick up some of the additional load... but ask him for a raise. He'll say yes. He has no choice but to say yes."

Getting raises is all about leverage, especially in the modern era when all employers don't care about their employees' well being at all anymore. They take advantage of you without a second thought, they deserve every ounce of this shit snowball that rolls back down the hill.
