[Story] 2014-2018 SOR/KOTFE/KOTET Narrative In Review

I am gonna keep it a short.

SoR: blatantly disrespectful what they did to Revan, they made an abomination out of him. The scenario made no sense at all (Dark Side Revan didn't want to die yet??? So when he "died" at the Foundry his spirt split in two Wtf is that for amateur bs writing???) and Revan's motives were vague as hell. He was evil for evil's sake.

Rishi was fun though and I liked the quests.

KoTFE: Biggest disappointment ever. We get to see a new faction from unknown space and this makes it seem really cool, but of course when first playing the expansion you immediately find out it's the 200 IQ Sith Emperor who had been planning this all along. My god did Vitiate became super annoying. It would have been much more awesome had this new empire been completely new and not having relations with the Sith Empire. I also didn't really find the Eternal Empire convincly threatening enough. We barely witnessed any direct threats ourselves and they made the stupid decision to show the entire buildup (the invasions of Zakuul on Korriban etc., which is actually cool) in one cinematic and not allow us to play through that part of the story. Instead, we wake up 5 years later or something (I forgot and genuinely don't care) and we just get to hear that Zakuul is now the source of power in the known galaxy. OK, I guess?

They should have developed a story in which the power of the Eternal Fleet was showcased to the main character him/herself. Like destroying an important part of the Republic fleet or a planet, to give an example. "That's right, you don't stand a chance, so surrender or face the worst." Nope, we don't get to see this for ourselves. The brutality never really was shown well enough.

In terms of gameplay, having a new faction seemed really cool and I was hoping this would mean we actually could play for the new faction, but KOTFE offered very little in terms of new gameplay. It was the same fucking shit disguised as something new. Zakuul still felt very small and limiting and I had high hopes this would at least become a large hub for endgame with tons of quest areas, but also RP potential.

Coming back to the storytelling of KOTFE: It felt like a fucking sitcom, having to suffer through this huge family drama that I didn't give a crap about. I don't sympathize for any of the characters and Arcann is the dullest fucking villain ever. Why throw the player in such a situation when the characters aren't even worked out that well and still new, it was very uncomfortable. The original Star Wars films had the Skywalker family, but these characters were actually very well-written and Luke trying to get his father back to the light because he thinks he is still a good person, even after finding out that he is Vader and thus killed Obi-Wan and committed all these atrocities, is a much more interesting premise and really enphasizes the love of a son for his father. This family drama I actually care about.

KOTET: Just as shit as KOTFE in terms of story. A point of nuance, the cinematic of KOTET was fucking great. It explained to the audience what caused Vaylin to become such an insane, coldblooded killer and why she doesn't trust anyone anymore. One short cinematic did more good in terms of storytelling than two fucking expansions.

For the new/last expansion, I hope get back to Republic vs. Empire and fight in a massive war again. I'm really not up for more drama between poorly written characters.
