Story Thread 2 (Electric Boogaloo)

Nate walked along the vivid sidewalks of Oarai, contemplating a number of things, including going back home. Being here is honestly just a waste of time, he thought to himself. He thought that coming to Japan would make him feel more important, but he really didn’t feel any different at all. He felt excluded and unimportant. He felt like a ghost. Of course being social would likely piss him off even more, the simple paradox of wanting to be alone but not wanting to be lonely strained him harder than he could handle. For him, life really sucked. He turned left at a bubble tea shop, but sitting at the table in front of him was none other than Ooarai girls high school’s Hippo team. Not in the mood, he thought to himself. Right as he put his hood up and walked away, he heard Saemonza call out; “Nathan-kun!” He froze, and a look of sheer disappointment came over his face. He let the faintest sigh escape his mouth, turned, and said “Hey, guys, how goes it?” The girls motioned for him to sit at the table parallel to them. He kind of trudged over and plopped down in the seat, trying a little bit to let them know he wanted to leave. He hated when he was dragged into a social situation. Actually, he hated everything. “So how are things with you?” Oryou asked. “Good, I guess.” Lie. “Um, how are things going with you?” “Loving every minute of it. We wish we were back in out StuG, though.” “Yeah. Heh.” Slightly awkward silence took over as nobody made any effort to keep the steam of the conversation going. But suddenly, Erwin spoke up. “So, um, Nathan-kun, I assume you’re looking for a summer job?” He was suddenly alerted. Don’t blush. Don’t fuck up. Don’t let your voice crack. Erwin was his crush. He seriously loved her. He thought about her day and night, usually, would almost want to beat it to fantasies of him and her. “Yes. I am. I, uh, I haven’t found anything yet.” You robotic, socially impaired, fuck... he yelled in his head to himself. He noticed Caesar give Erwin a suggestive look, like she was teasing her about something. He ignored the possibilities. Instead of thinking about that, he decided to think of an excuse to leave. He looked at his watch. “Guys, I’ve got to go. Nice chatting with you.” “Oh, well, bye then!” “Bye.” And with that, he continued to wander the streets.
