I've known a lot of men that used it as a stepping stone to coming out as gay. I think, when it comes to women sometimes, it's more of an airing on the side of caution/not wanting to get their hearts broken sort of thing.

As far as the other way goes, the porn industry has fetishized bisexual and gay women quite a bit and why we maybe don't see the same reaction from straight men when it comes to women (because obviously that means they have a chance at a 3-some /s).

A world where men (and anyone) feel comfortable enough to come out as gay and one where bi-sexual women aren't portrayed as a man's fantasy like that's their only purpose in life would be great. Hopefully we get there someday.
