In late 2017 the MCU1 was at End of Life and Tesla did not tell its customers. They did not want the Osborne Effect and held back that valuable information.

With a phone, you know when it will be upgraded and can be an informed customer. Do you want to buy a new Tesla and find out they upgraded the seats on the very next Tesla off the line? Do you want to buy one and find out that it has new cameras on the corners of the bumpers and yours does not?

Automotive shorthand for this is the Model Year. I get that Tesla wants to retain flexibility and constantly improve the cars. I think they can communicate better.

And my MCU1 barfed today after the last update and was ten minutes rebooting. It's not 'ok'.
