Street Fighter Designer David Sirlin: "Overwatch team: great job... but you should re-think the current system of gaining/losing rank points. Adjusting the ranking based on individual performance rather than just win/loss is pretty dangerous."

he is proposing a system that only takes into account wins/loses, which is the same as a fighting game.

the argument against the OP of this comment is that he is disregarding Sirlin's opinion specifically because he thinks that his opinion is invalid due to him being a fighting game designer. that is my issue.

but if were going to talk opinions, i think it is stupid that overwatch takes into account your "performance" into your rank. you dont have to play 6v6 or 1v1 to see the flaw in this system.

lets look at it from a 1v1 fighting game perspective. is this current system stupid for fighting games? yes it is. it SHOULD be, you won or you lost. if we took into account things like... your highest combo, the largest damage you did, if you got/did get stunned, then some people will play into that. someone about to lose will just do a yolo strategy so that if it works, at least if they lose they did "more" damage or spent more meter. but thats not the point of the game. the point of the game is to beat your opponent. conversely, because the opponent knows this, they might think their opponent is going to do something that will try to skew their loss, so they will counter it. they're playing a different game.
