Stressed out I don't feel like I'm working too much.

I backward plan and create lessons that align with the test or quiz questions. I do direct instruction on the most important concepts that I feel 6th graders won't be able to grasp. During instruction I'm working in small groups and paying particular attention to students I feel as though may need extra help. I never pull assessment out of my ass. After they take the quizzes I go back and do item analysis for each question and see what question(s) they had particular issues with.

All of my quizzes and tests for the first marking period at least are open Note. So if they pay attention to discussion and take good notes from a PowerPoint and keep all of their graphic organizers we go over they do fine. Those who don't do fine are those who refuse to take notes or refuse to engage in discussion. I work with those students individually, but I can't make them try. I do care about the success of my students. And I try different strategies to help them succeed. But quite simply and bluntly if they don't try or they don't ask questions after it's explained there's nothing I can do. I can give them opportunities to succeed. But I cannot guarantee success if they don't really want it.
