Stripped oil pan threads

What's spinning freely here, is it whatever tool you're using in the bolt head, or the bolt itself?

If the latter then sounds like there's some damage to the threading on the oilpan itself, hopefully the bolt snapped and there's still enough threading for another bolt to be used, but you'll need to drill out the current bolt that's spinning. If the bolt hasn't snapped then you might need to get the oilpan re-threaded, dunno how common that is, might be cheaper to just replace it.

If it's just the bolt head that's stripped then yead whacking a bigger bit in will be fine if doable. Depending on how wide/deep the bolt head is, you could even take a dremmel to it so a flathead could be used. Hopefully it's in a good position to work with.
