Students with dyslexia struggle in Washington. Will a fresh approach to reading instruction be enough?

Hamlin Robinson uses a fantastic literacy system called Wired for Reading. As an SPS literacy specialist I was sent for the training and found it to be wonderful and really successful with not only students who needed more structured literacy instruction (students with dyslexia, ELL students, struggling readers), but for all students as well.

It’s an expensive training but I do think it’s something schools should be looking at across the board- it focuses not just on phonics but also on the roots/stems/origins of words which can really help learners master confusing spelling conventions. It’s a shame that more schools aren’t using it as it’s a great curriculum for elementary students and far surpasses the ever-changing curriculum the district arbitrarily buys every few years to replace the older curriculum.
