Study Show That Software Piracy Lowers Poverty

So I sold a piece of software, and it got pirated.

I assumed the people who downloaded it for free couldn't afford to pay.

If a kid emailed and said they're poor and asked me- I'd have sent them it for free. So can I be mad? I was flattered that someone would want to use my software, but it was annoying the way in which they did it.

I feel like pirating something that is clearly made by a sole person is more reprehensible than pirating something by a large company. If you pirate from me you are directly using my income to subsidise your own and it feels more like stealing. With a big company, the developers still receive their income every month regardless.
