Subtle Racism and Explicit Nativism in San Francisco Community Meetings

Or more like, people don't recognize how hateful some parts of the US is compared to San Francisco. I got assaulted for how I dress, and left home cause my parents wanted to murder me because of my sexuality. I was told to pass as white even though I'm Hispanic, and if you said that here people would think you're nuts vs it being seen as a good idea to do so in my hometown. San Francisco has pride in bring a haven for all groups while shitty hometown tried to remain as exclusive as possible.

If someone denined you for a job here cause of your last name bring Chen, if someone assaulted you for being LGBTQ, or simply ripping off your headscarf it'd make the news. People would complain and be upset as well as ashamed of their city. Back home? Nope, rather it's encouraged.

I don't think San Francisco is perfect, but compared to where a lot of the people who live here presently come from it is. Additionally, people actually want to learn about different cultures here - from food to language - which not everywhere is like. Racism is lessened when you meet others, eat their food, and learn their langusge to where it also becomes your own in a way. San Francisco promotes and allows that, and other places do not.
