Suffering, not just happiness, weighs in the utilitarian calculus

I mean... sure? I wasn't saying we need to go around breaking peoples legs so that they can learn to appreciate their legs, so like, I don't know if that was directed at me...

I'm just saying, like... there are things in my life that I'm proud of because I worked my ass off for them. There are things I wouldn't have achieved if I didn't have to, but which I'm now glad I've achieved. There are things I cherish especially because I've experienced life without them. There are times when knowing how bad it could be dramatically improved my perception of how bad it is. There are times I regret because I had it so freaking good and I didn't even know what to do with myself.
