People in this sub are incredibly sensitive to anyone disagreeing with them.

people get extra weird with summernats here. every time it's brought up people say locals don't like it...but it would be one of the highest attended paid events by locals each year in canberra (and it's quite an expensive ticket). they say there's no car culture in canberra, but there's car events on nearly every weekend all spring and into summer plus some the rest of the year. you can tell they don't get outside their bubble much, and likely complain about summernats with like-minded friends or coworkers leading to a narrow view.

there's never much insight into all this supposed extra crime/harassment/property damage etc either...probably because there's only been a handful of one-off incidents in the last 10 years. it almost feels like people get offended just by seeing some dudes in summernats shirts hanging at braddon, because they like different things and look different and that must be scary
